FAMILY relationships are put to the test in Worst Wedding Ever.

The hit comedy, which sold out its premiere run at Salisbury Playhouse in 2014, makes a return to the main house next week.

Written by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, it is the first play commissioned by Salisbury Playhouse's Original Drama programme.

The comedy drama is set in West Dorset and as the name suggests centres around a wedding. Following a family through their wedding preparations and the big day itself.

"It's about the preparation for it, how everyone feels and wants different things from the wedding; the daughter wanting one thing and the mother wanting something completely different, that is where the conflict begins," says Julia Hills.

Hills, who has appeared in the theatre production of Calendar Girls and television show 2point4 Children, stars as Liz, the bride's mother with Derek Frood (Poldark) playing her builder husband.

"They are great parts, it's a very well written play by Chris Chibnall. It is very funny and has got great rhythms in it," admits Hills.

Frood adds: "People watching it might think the situations in it are quite extreme - there is quite a lot that is happening. But, I'm sure there are elements in there that ordinary families will recognise; the conflict that goes on within families, the relationships."

Completing the cast is Elizabeth Cadwallader, Ben Callon, Lloyd Gorman, Kieran Hill, Elisabeth Hopper, Nav Sidhu and Chris Talman.

The production runs starts its run on Tuesday (February 2) and runs until February 25.

Hills says audiences can expect "a lot of fun and laughs".

"We're hoping people will be laughing," adds Frood.

The event which is at 11.30am is raising money to support original drama from the Playhouse.
