TWENTY-FOUR-hour commercial activity in the city will be discussed at the next Salisbury Area Board meeting, on Thursday, March 9.

The issue has arisen after a planning application for a 24-hour gym was submitted for the former Lakeland building in Market Walk, by the library.

Area board chairman Richard Clewer said: “The area board is not supposed to comment on planning applications and, as members of the committee, some of us would not want to comment at all.

“However the application for the gym has raised a number of questions about 24-hour commercial activity in the city centre and whether that is suitable for a city like Salisbury.

“I have spoken to several councillors and we want to understand the views of businesses, residents in the city centre and potential users of 24-hour services in the centre.

“We are therefore going to discuss the item at the next area board and it would be really good if to hear from anyone with a view on the idea in general.”

The meeting is set to be held at the City Hall in Salisbury.
