A MOTORCYCLE show that attracts thousands of bikers WILL take place next month after a last minute injection of funds.

Earlier this week organisers of the Salisbury Spring Surprise Motorcycle Show cancelled the event on April 30 blaming a shortage of funding and safety concerns.

But this morning, following a meeting of city leaders and businesses, extra funding was announced.

The extra cash is coming from local motorcycle dealer Gary Hayball of Hayball Motorcycles and Salisbury Business Improvement District (BID).

Finbar Colson of Salisbury MAG said: "Although it seemed we had hit a wall, dialogue has provided a way through. The show will go on!

"We are very grateful to everyone who has supported us, especially Hayball's and Salisbury BID for financially supporting the event."

The show will now take place on Sunday, April 30, as planned.

Around 8,000 bikers are expected.

Steve Godwin from Salisbury BID said: “We are particularly pleased to be able to support an event which drives additional footfall into the city, particularly on a Sunday.

"Last year, we didn’t know about it in advance and weren’t therefore able to notify businesses of the additional benefit that they could gain from the extra people in the city. This year, we will use the lead in to advise businesses so that they can be prepared the extra trade.”

The meeting this morning was attended by representatives of Salisbury MAG, Salisbury BID, SP4 Security Solutions and Salisbury City Council.
