MORE than £5,000 has been raised for Wiltshire Air Ambulance in memory of a Winterslow teenager who died in a car accident 10 years ago.

Jamie Boxall was only 17 when he died after an accident at High Post Road on February 27, 2007. He was airlifted to hospital but the crew were unable to save his life.

A 1970s fancy dress party in his memory was held on Saturday, February 25 at Winterslow Village Hall, which helped raise more than £5,465 for the air ambulance's air base campaign.

Jamie's mum Lisa said: "We wanted to remember Jamie in a happy and positive way so we set up a Just Giving page for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance for the new base in Semington, Melksham."

The money was raised through the Just Giving Page alongside donations from the party. The family even received donations from as far afield as Australia and the USA.

Lisa added: "We want to thank everyone who came, all the raffle donations and especially all the money donations."

Wiltshire Air Ambulance launched a new fundraising appeal earlier this year to raise the remaining £1.25 million needed to complete its new air base.

Planning permission has been granted for the charity's new Operations Centre on land at Outmarsh Farm, Semington, near Melksham.

The custom-built air base will bring together the helicopter, air crew and charity team on to one site in the centre of Wiltshire.

Building is anticipated to start in the spring. And the new base will allow the helicopter to reach all parts of Wiltshire within 11 minutes.
