THE long-awaited painting of a box junction at a roundabout has finally been completed, six months after it was painted in the wrong direction.

The original work at the Countess Roundabout was meant to take place in September, but the box junction was wrongly painted on the eastward, instead of the westward section.

Highways England was informed of the mistake, and planned to rectify their error during the Easter period.

But the new boxes have now been placed in the correct part of the roundabout, ahead of schedule.

Wiltshire councillor for Durrington and Larkhill, Graham Wright, was one of the first to spot the error in September, and campaigned for the mistake to be put right.

He said the traffic lights were now back in phase, and he awaited the Easter rush to see if the new box junction worked.

"It is a great job," he said.

"Thanks to all concerned in getting the boxes in the right place."

The markings were put in place over the course of two nights, requiring the closure of the A303 between Longbarrow Roundabout and Solstice Park junction.
