TEENAGER Molly Hole cleared 1.68m – not far short of her own considerable height – to win a high jump competition at London’s Lee Valley indoor meeting.

The talented City of Salisbury star consolidated her personal best and donned the mantle as UK number one in the under 15 age group, writes John Ruskin.

She also won the shot put with a throw of 12.37m to take third place in the countrywide rankings.

Now 14, Molly joined the Salisbury club six years ago after growing too tall for gymnastics, thriving on the variety that track and field can offer.

She trains in the gym two or three times a week plus a couple of days at the Five Rivers track in addition to her studies at South Wilts grammar school.

“I know before long I’m going to have to specialise to continue improving, but I’m not at that stage yet,” Molly said.

She describes being number one in the country as “pretty cool” but admits it creates lots of pressure.

“My ambition for now is to stay top in the high jump and improve further at shot put,” she adds.

“Some day, I’d love to make it as a GB junior.”
