WITH Easter just around the corner, we've put together a list of fun family events happening over the holidays.

From chocolate tasting and egg hunts to balloon rides and a procession through the city, there's plenty going on in Salisbury and south Wiltshire this Easter.

Easter Adventure Quest at Old Sarum

Salisbury Journal:

Be a challenge champion this Easter weekend (Friday 14 to Monday 17). You'll be greeted by a character from the past - perhaps a king, a butler or a Roman centurion - who'll be able to help you crack the clues as you explore Old Sarum Iron Age Hillfort. Reward for successful adventurers. Bring a picnic and find a peaceful spot to enjoy the butterflies and kestrels. Dog friendly.

Easter Egg Hunt in Downton

Salisbury Journal:

Some 3,500 eggs will be hidden in the sunken lawn in Downton Moot on Easter Monday (April 17). Children aged 11 or younger are asked to bring a bag or pot for collecting the eggs. For adults, there will be tea, coffee and cakes available. Entry is £2.50 for children, with proceeds going to the Downton Moot Preservation Trust. The fun starts at 11am. Gates open at 10.45am. No dogs.

Easter at the Salisbury Museum

Help make a giant mosaic for Easter with Urban Canvas. There will be storytelling and an Easter archaeology trail to follow with prizes too £7.50 adults, £3.60 children and £18.50 families. (Saturday, April 15)

Easter egg hunt and village fete

Salisbury Journal:

There will be Easter fun and games for all the family in the garden of the Royal Oak in Swallowcliffe on Easter Monday from noon. Games will include ring-toss, sack racing, a coconut shy and pin the tail on the bunny, with chocolatey prizes.

Easter Balloon Ride

Join Aerosaurus Balloons for an Easter Hot Air Balloon Ride on Saturday, April 15, and various other dates throughout the Easter Holidays.

The three-to-four-hour ballooning experience starts at the Larmer Tree Gardens and includes about an hour's flight over beautiful Wiltshire countryside, Champagne and a flight certificate. Prices start from £99pp, minimum age 7 years. April 8 to 23.

Easter chocolate tasting workshop

Salisbury Journal:

Goodfayre in Salisbury's Cross Keys shopping centre is running its ever popular chocolate experience during Easter. Children and adults can explore a variety of chocolates from across the globe, learning about the farms they have come from, how they are made and of course the most important bit - what they taste like. Adults £8, children £5, under-5s free, VIP and goodie bag £10.

There is also a free Easter egg trail around the shops in Cross Keys arcade to win a mini chocolate egg. April 7 to 15.

Easter EGGStraordinaire Down on The Farm

Salisbury Journal:

Visit Cholderton Charlie's during the Easter holidays (April 8 to 23) for Easter egg hunts, appearances from the Easter Bunny and see their new baby animals. Guests can have breakfast with the Easter Bunny from Good Friday (April 14) until April 17 between 9am and 10am. Tickets cost £9.95 per child and parents can supervise free of charge. Each child receives an Easter Egg from the Easter Bunny. Photo opportunities plus an animal handling session in the Ewe Tree Café Garden.

Easter Trail

Why not visit the Larmer Tree and join the White Rabbit on the Easter Trail at the Rushmore Estate, Tollard Royal, on Easter Monday? There are three sessions available, 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Children £4, accompanying adults free. Chocolate prizes for each child. Advance booking is advised. (billetto.co.uk/easter-trail) Follow the clues and fill in the puzzles and see if you can find your way along the trail. Mrs Greenfingers and Miss Fox will also be on hand to help, entertain and guide you on your way. No dogs.

Procession of Witness

Churches across Salisbury will be taking part in a "procession of witness" on Good Friday. The procession will start at 11am at Salisbury Cathedral's west door with opening devotions by the Dean of Salisbury, the Very Rev June Osborne. The route will go along the high street, to the Poultry Cross and market square. At noon final prayers will take place by the Guildhall Square. The event will include live music, singing, readings, prayers, hot cross buns, balloons and an Easter message.
