CHURCHES across Salisbury took part in a procession of witness on Good Friday.

The Dean of Salisbury, the Very Rev June Osborne, led the opening devotions at Salisbury Cathedral’s west door.

The procession route visited the high street, Poultry Cross and market square before final prayers in the Guildhall Square.

Mary Paisey from Churches Together said: “It went very well indeed.

“We think we had more people than ever before. The idea is catching on and more and more churches are taking part.”

Volunteers from different churches carried the cross and hymns were sung throughout the procession.

Around 300 hot cross buns were distributed and a number of balloons with the Easter message on were given away.

Event organisers included Rev Jonathan Plows from St Thomas’s Church and Alex Ewing from St Francis Church.

Other churches participating included the Salvation Army, United Reformed Church and Assemblies of God.
