MATTHEW Hammond, from Wilton, won his first race at the Mini festival held at Snetterton on May 13 and 14.
Hammond qualified to start fifth on the grid in the first race at Snetterton and was challenging strongly for the lead when his water pump failed and he was forced to retire from the race.
Thanks to the mechanics of the Xcelr8 team he was able to race on the Sunday.
He started race two from the back of the grid and managed to claw his way back to finish in fifth place.
In race three he started strongly, pressurising the leader from the outset, eventually managing to get past on lap seven and going on to win the race achieving his first win in the Mini challenge Championship.
The next Mini Challenge races will be held at Silverstone, home of British motor sport, on June 3 and 4.
