ANIMAL expert Dr Isla Fishburn is coming to Salisbury for a workshop exploring dog wellness.

Dr Fishburn, who has trained with wolf and wolf-dog hybrids for years, is at Fisherton Mill on Saturday, July 8, as part of a animal magic month, and will draw on zoology, biology, nutrition and psychology to understand dogs.

She said: “It is really about canine wellness and balanced behaviours and how the two are intertwined and how the two interlink. You can’t really have a dog exhibiting balanced behaviours if their wellness has any imbalances so it is looking at a collection of things I do from my background as a zoologist and conservationist biologist.”

It is an introduction into what canine wellness is and aims to help dog owners understand their dogs not just domestic animals but as a species through their biology. The talk will also look at how diet, interaction, and games can improve dog wellness.

“I focus a lot on what imbalances are and where imbalances come from to get people to understand what wellness is and the importance of it not just for our dogs but for ourselves. And then look at a dog’s personality and the ways that a dog communicates and how a dog may changes its behaviour depending on circumstances.”

“[People can expect] an alternative route to understanding and recognising if their dog is well and how to keep their dog well and happy, how to understand what is normal and what is natural, what is an imbalance and how to overcome imbalances to improve the state of happiness and wellness in a dog.”
