FILM lovers are in for a treat as a pop-up cinema opens in the Old George Mall over the summer.

Launching on Saturday (July 8), the free Cinemania big screen, which will be in located in former BHS shop, will be open to children of all ages, showing popular films including Disney classics The Lion King and The Little Mermaid as well as Roald Dahl’s The BFG and James and the Giant Peach.

The first summer cinema will kick off with an Ice Age-themed day featuring screenings of Ice Age and Ice Age 2: The Melt Down.

Plus, the film’s very own Sid, Scrat and Diego will be making special appearances at intervals from 10am to get everyone excited for the upcoming summer of film fun.

Jon Osgood, the manager of the Old George Mall, said: “Our Spooky Cinema in October was a huge success with more than 650 parents and their children coming along to enjoy Halloween, so we thought introducing Cinemania would be the perfect way to keep youngsters entertained during the school holidays.”

Cinemania will show 28 films on the big screen on seven weekends throughout the school holidays until Sunday, August 20 as well as helping raise money for Salisbury District’s Hospital charity, Stars Appeal through collections.

“The opening weekend is going to be brilliant,” Jon said. “Saturday will see the start of our fundraising for the Stars Appeal along with Ice Age trio Sid, Scrat and Diego opening the special cinema to young movie lovers and the fun will continue on Sunday with screenings of Madagascar and Madagascar: Escape to Africa.

“We hope everyone has a fantastic time at the first weekend of Old George Mall’s Cinemania and we look forward to meeting Ice Age’s movie superstars.”

Cinemania will be open every Saturday and Sunday with screenings at 11.30am and 2.30pm.
