NATIONAL retailer WH Smith will no longer be stocking the Salisbury and Forest Journal in its branches, however readers can still buy copies from all major supermarkets and independent newsagents in the area.

This follows a move by the chain to try and impose additional fees on publishers in return for selling newspapers through its stores. Newsquest cannot agree to these fees and therefore WH Smith has delisted a number of local products across the South West.

Readers are reminded that WH Smith is responsible for only a small percentage of copies sold on the Salisbury Journal each week and they can still find their favourite local paper at all major supermarkets, including Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and the Co-op, as well as many independent newsagents across the region.

Marie Rushall, regional newspaper sales manager for Newsquest, publisher of the Salisbury Journal, said: “We’re obviously very disappointed that WH Smith, one of the longest running retailers in our area has decided to stop stocking the Salisbury Journal, this will no doubt be upsetting for many customers who can no longer buy their local newspaper in its stores.

“We are working with other newspaper shops in the local area to ensure readers can still get hold of their Salisbury Journal each week. Any readers who want more information regarding who their nearest, alternative Journal stockists are, can contact our newspaper sales team on 01722 426530.”
