GREENTREES Primary School pupils in Salisbury got a taste of French culture to celebrate Bastille Day.

A day of activities was held at the school on Friday, July 14. It was organised by French teacher Liz Bone with the support of class teachers and assistants.

Many of the children came to school in the colours of the French Flag.

At the start of the day the children enjoyed a one-man show by Compagnie Tête- à- Tête called the Café de Dan Ro – Ro, including mime, juggling, plate spinning and magic tricks.

This was almost entirely in French with plenty of audience participation.

After this, the children took part in various activities including finding out more about the history of Bastille Day and learning to sing Frère Jacques in a round.

Guest of honour for the day was Cécile Noel, the headteacher of École Les Châtaigniers in La Suze Sur Sarthe, with whom Greentrees has had a link since 2011.

The children got to find out more about their pen-friends at the school and life in France.

A spokesman for the school said: "This was an enjoyable and informative way to end another year of great learning in French lessons.

"In the words of René, the café owner in the show it was 'Sympa'."
