OLD Sarum Nursery has been rated outstanding by Ofsted during its first inspection.

The nursery, which opened in the community centre in May 2015, was rated outstanding in all areas, including leadership and management; quality of teaching; personal development, behaviour and welfare; and outcomes for children.

Manager Angela Riley said she was really "proud" of the grading and her team "who got the recognition they deserved for all all their hard work".

Inspector Joanne Neenan said: "Exemplary leadership and dedicated, well-qualified staff work together to promote high-quality childcare, ensuring children have the best possible start."

Staff promoted learning in everyday activities "superbly" and used daily routines to support learning.

The report said: "The manager and staff have an excellent knowledge of children's progress and have high expectations. Where children do not make expected progress, they have interventions in place to support them with this."

"Staff use their excellent knowledge of the children to carefully plan the environment ensuring children have access to a range of interesting experiences, indoors and outdoors, that value the diversity of their backgrounds."

And there were "superb" opportunities for them to "explore and investigate, and be physically active".

"Children make very rapid progress from their starting points," said Miss Neenan.

"Children play and learn with a 'have-a-go' attitude and they keep on trying. This prepares them extremely well for the next stages in their education."

The report also said that parents were kept "extremely well informed" of their children's progress" and given ideas to support their children's learning at home.

The nursery held a special party last week to celebrate their successful Oftsed report.
