SMILEY Face Nursery in Amesbury has celebrated the grand opening of its new-look facilities.

The opening of its new Bumblebees room was attended by the Mayor of Amesbury, Cllr Andrew Williams and popular children's cartoon character Peppa Pig.

Activities and food were laid on to welcome families and the nursery was open for people to look around its new room and the newly resourced sensory room.

The charity-run nursery in Kitchener Road previously shared the building with another charity who have now moved on to new premises and applied to take over the lease of the whole building in the hope of expanding to provide more childcare spaces.

To support its expansion, the nursery was awarded a government grant for £30,000 in 2016 as well as funding from Amesbury Area Board to support the building of the toilets and improvements to lighting.

Smiley Face Nursery is run by manager Debbie Lewis and deputy manager Hayley Jull along with a team of qualified, early years practitioners and a committee.

A spokesman for the nursery said: "We are all over the moon and looking forward to being able to offer more good quality affordable childcare to our ever expanding community and creating more job opportunities and educational opportunities for our staff, local schools and colleges."
