HUNDREDS braved the rain and lined the streets to marvel in the spectacular costumes during Mere Carnival.

The carnival on Saturday, which included processions in the afternoon and evening, drew bumper crowds with hundreds of people, young and old, taking part.

Carnival treasurer John Jordan said: “All of our entries paraded as if they was no rain and because of this the judges had to choose the winner of the Spirit of the Carnival award and they said it was remarkable how well the entrants cope with the poor weather that they decided to award it to all of them.”

Throughout the day there was a host of entertainment which filled the streets and pubs in the town.
