POLICE are still on the lookout for a wanted man who failed to appear in court a month ago.

William George Thomas Smith, aged 36, was due to appear in court on September 15 but did not turn up.

Wiltshire Police have renewed their appeal to find Mr Smith, and say he is wanted in connection with a number of violent offences, including domestic violence.

He was charged with assaulting Alexandra Roxburgh on August 23 in Amesbury.

He was also charged with assaulting Darren Geraghty, causing actual bodily harm, on the same date.

Mr Smith telephoned the Journal after the first police appeal was issued and admitted having assaulted Mr Geraghty but said he"never laid a finger on" Ms Roxburgh, adding: "I don't hit women".

Police believe Mr Smith, whose last known address was Boscombe Down Road in Amesbury, is in the Amesbury or Devizes area.

Police say he is known to be violent and members of the public should not approach him directly, but should contact the police on 999 immediately if they see him, stating where he was and which direction his was travelling in.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101. Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where information can be left anonymously.
