HUNDREDS of homes in and around the city are without a television service this evening (Thursday) as engineers carry out work on the Salisbury Transmitter.
Freeview customers are facing blank screens as between now and Monday engineers will reduce or switch off the transmitter to carry out essential maintenance work on the mast at Harnham Hill.
A post on the BBC’s website says: “The times we will be reducing power and shutting down are weather dependent, so we cannot accurately say when these will happen in advance.”
However, engineers have estimated that the work will take place between 9am and 5pm, and the service could be off for as long as an hour at a time.
They added that television services will still be available on Sky and Cable, such as Virgin Media.
A spokesman for Freeview said: "Planned engineering work has been taking place at the Salisbury transmitter. The work should finish later this afternoon (Friday) at which point a normal service will resume. All work has been scheduled to cause the least amount of disruption to viewers."
