TWO friends from Ringwood have officially launched their unique calender to raise money for two charities – and it includes army vehicles, strategically placed straw and even a goat.

Debee Deane and Sarah Williams came together to organise the Ringwood Belles calender in aid of Cancer Research UK and Help for Heroes.

The idea behind the fundraising effort was formed after the passing of Debee’s uncle following a short battle with lung and throat cancer.

Five months prior to this, her aunt passed away after a long battle with breast cancer, while her mother has skin cancer and her father has prostate cancer.

On the afternoon of her uncle’s death, Debee and Sarah discussed the impact cancer has on families and decided to do something to try and raise money, while giving something back to the people donating.

From there the Ringwood Belles calender was born, with a 1940s Land Army theme.

Sarah has also witnessed the impact cancer can have after losing her grandfather and both her grandmothers to cancer, while her youngest brother was diagnosed at the age of 19 with testicular cancer and is now a cancer survivor.

Debee and Sarah said they are hoping to raise as much awareness and money as possible.

“Everyone is affected in one way or another,” Sarah said. “We wanted to take a different approach to raising money other than charity fun runs and cake sales. This is such a necessity – we need to obliterate cancer one day.”

After acquiring the services of professional photographers free of charge, the duo gathered willing volunteers at a desolate farm.

The pair have family connections to the armed forces and decided to raise money for the two causes. Each photograph is in black and white to link with the vintage theme, and features a colour on the page to match a different type of cancer each month.

To add what Debee says is a “cheeky” element to the calendar, the women are not fully dressed but have placed farm objects strategically.

“We had lots of fun creating this calendar and we hope this comes through the photographs,” Debee added.

An unveiling event at the London Tavern in Ringwood last week raised more than £1,000.

Calendar are available to buy at a cost of £9.99, with all profits going to the two charities. Enquiries and orders can be made through the “Ringwood Belles” Facebook page or by emailing ringwoodbelles@outlook.com.
