SALISBURY MP John Glen has been promoted to City minister in Theresa May's government reshuffle.
He will take over from Stephen Barclay as economic secretary to the Treasury.
In the role, Mr Glen will be responsible for the UK financial services industry.
He was promoted to arts, heritage and tourism minister only seven months ago.
Mr Glen said he was "delighted and shocked" at his latest appointment.
He said: “I have very much enjoyed my role in the arts and have completed 117 visits in the past six months.
“I was very surprised to get the call and am delighted to take on this new responsibility at such a crucial time for our country.
“As always though, my priority will remain the people of Salisbury and I will be back at my advice surgery on Friday as usual.”
