FIVE people were arrested after police chased a car linked to raid on the Co-op in Wilton Road through Salisbury yesterday (Friday).

Police attempted to stop a black Ford Focus in Estcourt Road at about 4.15pm after enquiries were carried out which linked it to an aggravated burglary at the Co-op in Wilton Road which happened on January 6.

There was a police pursuit after the driver failed to stop.

Police say the vehicle forced its way through traffic, colliding with a number of vehicles at Castle Street roundabout, in an effort to get away from police.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle in Cooks Close, where the driver and front seat passenger fled the vehicle.

They were pursued on foot by two officers and the passenger was detained. A further three passengers were detained before they could leave the vehicle.

Descriptions of the driver were passed to other officers on the ground and he was located hiding in a back garden of an address nearby.

A 27-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, theft of a vehicle and several theft offences and remains in custody.

A 28-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has since been released under investigation.

A 21-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, several theft offences and Section 5a unfit through drugs. He remains in Melksham custody.

A 22-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, theft of a vehicle and theft offences and remains in custody.

A 27-year-old woman from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. She has been released under investigation.

Further enquiries were carried out in relation to the vehicle and a 19-year-old woman from Salisbury was arrested later that evening on suspicion of aggravated burglary. She remains in custody.

Inspector Pete Sparrow said: “This was some excellent policing work by officers from community policing teams and CID to locate all involved and arrest them swiftly. Officers demonstrated proactive investigative skills, calmness during the pursuit, and brilliant teamwork in locating the individuals following a foot chase.

“Enquiries will now continue in relation to the aggravated burglary and we would continue to appeal for information from anyone who either witnessed the incident at the Co-Op in Wilton Road at 8.40pm on January 6, or anyone who witnessed or has dash cam footage of a black Ford Focus being driven dangerously between the approach to Castle Roundabout on the A36, Devizes Road (A360) and Cooks Close at approximately 4.15pm yesterday afternoon.”
