A DAMERHAM woman has celebrated turning 100.

Peggy Bailey celebrated her hundredth birthday on Monday, surrounded by family and friends, at Glynn Court care home in Fordingbridge.

Peggy’s son, Nic, said his mother was a valued member of the community who had been involved with church functions and the local branch of the Royal British Legion since moving to Damerham in 1972.

“She has done remarkably well,” Nic said.

“Father died when she was 80 and she has picked herself up, dusted herself down and got going again - and that in itself is quite remarkable.”

Mayor of Fordingbridge Malcolm Connolly attended to wish Peggy a happy birthday and said turning 100 was “a tremendous achievement”.

“It is an honour and a privilege to attend Peggy’s one hundredth birthday”, he said.

And home manager Julie Bishop said Peggy was a “delightful” resident, adding: “She’s a lovely relaxed lady who loves reading the newspaper and gets a lot of visitors.”
