AN elderly woman sustained serious injuries after she fell from her bicycle in Avon Approach yesterday (Monday, April 23).

The incident happened at approximately 1pm.

The woman, aged 84, was riding a Ridgeback pedal bike along the road when police say she appears to have lost control when entering the tunnel.

She sustained injuries to her hip, pelvis and shoulder and was taken to Salisbury District Hospital where she remains.

The road was closed for four hours while the ambulance service and police attended the scene.

The air ambulance was called at just after 1pm and landed on the field at Butts Road, near Salisbury fire station.

But it was not used and the woman was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the cyclist prior to the collision or anyone who witnessed the incident itself.
