YOUNG and old flocked to Salisbury city centre to enjoy the sunshine at the annual St George’s Day celebrations on Sunday.
A packed-out Market Place was entertained by musical performances, morris dancers, re-enactments, street entertainers and more.
And the day also saw the city select a new town crier, after a public competition. Jef Hutchby will now make ceremonial announcements at public events.
Salisbury mayor John Lindley said Mr Hutchy was a crowd favourite as he could project his voice and speak clearly.
And he said it was one of the most successful St George’s Day celebrations yet.
“We had excellent weather, good shows and a significant number of people who came along - it was a good day for Salisbury after everything we have had in the past few months.
“A good start to the year.”
