A HOSPITAL team came away with first place at the Inter Spinal Unit Games last month.

Patients from Salisbury District Hospital’s Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment centre were the overall winners of the games – a national event which introduces patients with a recent spinal cord injury to sport.

It marks the second year running that the team have bagged the top position, finishing 20 points ahead with three gold medals, three silver and two bronze.

Team manager Martin Whitfield has led Salisbury to six victories and three second-place finishes since 2010.

He said: “It was awesome. I really wasn’t expecting it at all.

“There were three other teams getting a lot of placements, so I honestly thought that we were fourth place.”
