IT was a milestone year for Salisbury Hospice Charity who celebrated their 10th annual Midnight Walk.

More than 350 walkers took part in the event to light up the darkness and march through the streets of Salisbury on Saturday.

The route started and finished at Five Rivers Leisure Centre and took walkers through scenic sights of the city including through the grounds of Salisbury Cathedral.

Walkers were able to choose between six or ten mile routes.

Before setting off walkers took part in a glowtastic warm up led by Laura and Claire of Clubbercise Salisbury and Amesbury.

It was an emotional night for many as they placed stars with the name of loved ones on the memories board outside a specially lit Salisbury Cathedral.

So far more than £21,000 has been raised for the charity and in the next coming weeks the charity expects this figure to double with sponsorship still to come in.

A spokesman for the charity said: "Salisbury Hospice Charity would like to thank everyone who participated in the walk for their kind support and generosity.

"We would also like to thank everyone who made this walk possible including our amazing volunteers, Support to Ops, Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Tesco, Bidfood, Reeves, The Oven Door Bakery, Booker, Pritchetts Family Butchers, Downes Transport and of course our sponsor James Hay."

The money raised from the Midnight Walk funds vital services.

The charity aims to raise £1.5 million each year to fund Salisbury Hospice and relies on the kindness and generosity of the local community. It costs nearly £2.3 million a year to run the hospice.
