COUNCILLOR Mike Osment has been elected as the 758th Mayor of Salisbury.

The event held today (Saturday) was attended by more than 200 civic dignitaries who witnessed the handover of the mayoral chain from Cllr John Lindley to Cllr Osment.

Guests including mayors from neighbouring towns and cities as well as from sister cities in Salisbury North Carolina and Salisbury Maryland.

Cllr Osment, who was born in Salisbury and raised in Wilton, said: "I am immensely proud and honoured to be selected as the 758th Mayor of the City of Salisbury.

"I am looking forward to my mayoral year and to playing my part in celebrating and promoting our great city as it continues to recover from recent events."

The Mayor’s Charity for 2018-2019 will be the Rose Gale Trust and Childrens Chance.

The mayor added: "Having spent over 30 years working with young people, it seemed fitting for me to choose two local charities who provide much needed support to many young people."

The Mayor will be supported during his Mayoral Year by the Mayoress Nikki Savage.

The Mayoral Guide will be Scarlett from 1st Wilton Guides and the Mayoral Scout will be Lilah from 3rd Salisbury Sea Scouts.

Cllr John Walsh will serve as deputy mayor.
