AN EXHIBITION celebrating the life and legacy of Sir Terry Pratchett scooped an award.

Salisbury Museum’s Terry Pratchett: HisWorld exhibition won the title of Best Temporary or Touring Exhibition in the Museum and Heritage Awards last week.

The Museums and Heritage Awards, which are in its 16th year, recognise projects of excellence, and innovative and ground-breaking initiatives from galleries and visitor attractions across the UK and overseas.

A spokesman for the museum said it was “delighted” to have received the award, adding: “To have been nominated was incredibly exciting, but to have succeeded in the face of such brilliant competition, has been almost overwhelming.

“The team of staff and volunteers at the museum were thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with Rob Wilkins and the creative team from the Estate of Sir Terry Pratchett to create the exhibition.

“The support of Sir Terry’s family was very gratefully received, and also that of Sir Terry’s artist of choice, Paul Kidby – all of whom worked hard to help us mount an amazing exhibition, which included exclusive exhibits such as the contents of Sir Terry’s office and his knighthood.

“Enormous thanks have to go out to all of Sir Terry’s loyal fans, some of whom travelled thousands of miles to visit us in Salisbury. It was a privilege to meet these fans and to hear their stories of what Sir Terry meant to them. The award will definitely have pride of place at the museum.”

Thousands of visitors flocked to see the Terry Pratchett: HisWorld exhibition.

The museum worked closely with the Estate of Sir Terry Pratchett and artist Paul Kidby, who illustrated many of the Discworld publications, to put the exhibition together.

Pratchett, who lived in Broad Chalke, died in March 2015 after a public battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The exhibition featured artwork by Terry himself, and more than 40 original paintings and drawings by Paul Kidby, Pratchett's first published short story The Hades Business and his first typewriter, which was on display for the first time.
