CITY tour guides are showing their appreciation to the police officers who have been supporting Salisbury after the never agent attack.

Salisbury City Guides are offering free guided walks to officers during the summer.

The initiative has come about after the idea was suggested by one of the guides.

Diana Goetz, of Salisbury City Guides, said: “It was just something that we could do to show our appreciation.

“As many of the police who have been involved have come from other forces, it’s a chance, not only to say thank you, but also to show them what a great city Salisbury is.”

Officers from neighbouring forces including Avon and Somerset, West Mercia, and Wales, have been helping man the cordons in the city since the incident in March.

During the summer there is a guided walk every day, which starts from Salisbury Information Centre at 11am.

Police officers wanting to take the guided walk just need to show their warrant card. There is no need to buy a ticket.

The tours give an introduction to Salisbury’s history and highlights the main attractions for visitors and residents in the city centre and Cathedral Close.

The tour route takes in the Guildhall and the market square as well as St Thomas’s Church where the Doom painting is housed and the Haunch of Venison and much more.

The walk ends with an opportunity to see the buildings of Salisbury’s Cathedral Close and the cathedral itself.

Salisbury City Guides have about 30 guides who also give specialist walks in addition to the city tour.
