A 33-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly after Castle Street was cordoned off in Salisbury last night.

The man, of no fixed abode, Salisbury, was taken to Melksham custody and has since been issued with a caution.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "We understand that our initial response to the incident may have looked alarming, but we hope you appreciate why we needed to take this highly precautionary measure.

"We would like to reiterate, this is not connected to the ongoing major incident in Amesbury and Salisbury.

"We would also like to thank members of the public for their ongoing patience and support."

Last night emergency services were called to Castle Street at about 6.20pm after concerns were raised about the welfare of a man in his 30s who was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.

As a precautionary measure the hospital carried out tests to determine whether the man had been in contact with the nerve agent. The tests came back negative.
