BASING’S Harry Came hit a match winning century for St Cross, as they beat Basingstoke and North Hants in Winchester by 91 runs.

The home side having elected to bat were in trouble early on as openers Tom Foyle (16) and Joe Weatherley (9) were both back in the pavilion with only 25 scored.

However, St Cross thanks to Came and Ian Holland (67), built the platform for victory with a third wicket stand worth 131 runs.

Holland was finally the third man out bowled by Sibonelo Makhanya, the first of his two wickets.

After this the visitors hit back taking a couple more wickets, but Alex Ayers (48) then joined Came, and the pair put on 78 for the sixth wicket, before Ayers gave David Griffiths his second wicket of the game.

Once Came had reached his century, the home side declared leaving the St Cross batsman unbeaten on 102 and his 167-ball knock included 13 fours.

The Basingstoke reply got off to a bad start, as both openers Max Harsham and Ben Thane were caught behind leaving then 39-2.

Craig Williamson and Makhayna (15) took the score to 60, before a flurry of wickets left the Bountymen 61-5.

Williamson and Stokes (20) added 23 to the total, then Stokes became one of Stephen Mitchell’s six victims.

Top scorer Williamson kept the scoreboard ticking over, but ran out of partners, as Matt Thankachan (17) was the only other player to make it into double figures.

Williamson’s superb knock ended on 87 not out from 138 balls and included 14 fours.

This coming weekend, Basingstoke are back home when high flying Hampshire Academy are the visitors.
