A MAN has died after a crash near Larkhill Camp this morning.
The crash happened shortly before 5am and police say an investigation is underway.
A police spokesman said: "A Ford Fiesta van crashed on Wood Road and, sadly, the single male occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
"As enquiries continue, Wood Road, close to the entrance of the camp, has been closed. We would ask drivers to seek alternative routes at the moment."
A section of The Packway is also closed.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
An IOPC spokesperson said: “We have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a fatal road traffic incident in Wood Road, Larkhill this morning.
“A 58-year-old man, who was driving the sole vehicle involved in the collision, died at the scene.
“Wiltshire police officers had received a concern for the man’s welfare prior to the collision.
“The investigation follows a mandatory referral from Wiltshire Police and our investigators have been deployed to the scene and post incident procedures.”
