ALMOST a year on since a man’s half-naked body was found in a field off the A303, inspectors are no closer to determining how he came to be there.

Two horse riders discovered the body of Polish Miroslaw Wisniewski in a field between Cow Drove, connecting the A303 to Chilmark, and an unnamed road from the A303 to Teffont at about 2pm on September 21, 2017, and an immediate police investigation was launched.

At an inquest on Tuesday, coroner David Ridley said the cause of Mr Wisniewski’s death was still unknown, after forensic post mortems failed to shed any light on how or why he died.

Detective Constable Elizabeth Hunt said police believe Mr Misniewski’s body had been “deposited” at the site after his death, rather than died there.

But she said despite arrests being made, police “unfortunately do not know” who may have moved his body.

Mr Misniewski, aged 54, had been in the country for three weeks before he died, having travelled over from his home in Lublin, Poland, where he worked as a guesthouse manager with his wife.

Police believe he had been staying in Reading and working on a farm during his visit.

DC Hunt said although Mr Misniewski’s body had been “dumped” at the side of the field, there was no information to suggest he had been murdered or killed by someone else.

“We believe that where he was [when he died] they didn’t want him to be found there, so he was then moved,” Mr Ridley added.

After Mr Wisniewski’s body was discovered, police were unable to identify him for more than a week, after fingerprint and DNA tests failed and nobody reported him missing.

Two men from the Thames Valley area were arrested on suspicion of preventing unlawful burial, but later released without charge.

The investigation continues.
