BREAST cancer patients will benefit from the purchase of a new nipple tattoo machine, thanks to a donation from Salisbury Hospital League of Friends.

Nipple tattooing involves a semi-permanent pigment being injected into the skin under sterile conditions to recreate the areola, the disk area surrounding the nipple.

The service will be available to women who have had, or are undergoing, breast reconstruction following breast cancer treatment.

League of Friends chairman Dr David Stratton said: “We fund a number of important projects every year and are very pleased to have been able to lend our support to the whole Salisbury Breast Reconstruction Team with the wonderful work they do to help with the recovery process following surgery. We are always grateful for the donations that we receive from the public that enable us to fund these projects that bring huge benefits to so many people.”
