FISHGUARD and Goodwick are on the same Green Flag map as City of London, Royal Parks and Cardiff and Swansea City Councils.

Greening Fishguard and Goodwick entered the towns again this year and won a prestigious Green Flag Community Award for a second time in a row.

The flag, which will replace lasts year's on the flag pole on Goodwick Parrog, is awarded for exceptional green spaces which achieve a high standard of horticulture and also address environmental issues, community and heritage.

The awards ceremony, held in Cardiff on Wednesday, was attended by Hannah Blythyn, the Welsh Environment Minister who spoke of the importance of green spaces for the health and wellbeing of us all. It is the first time that the Green Flag Awards ceremony, run by Keep Britain Tidy, has been held in Wales.

"I am really proud to receive the Green Flag on behalf of our towns," said Julia Moffett, the coordinator of Greening Fishguard and Goodwick.

"It is the result of a huge amount of hard work by our volunteers, the generosity of our local businesses and funding from our Town Council.

"Let's hope that the Wales in Bloom and Britain in Bloom finalists judges appreciate us just as much as the Green Flag Team did"

The Britain in Bloom Finalist judges are visiting the towns on the morning of Tuesday 7 August.
