LAVERSTOCK 1st Scouts raised £172.50 last month purely from picking up litter.

In June (prior to Novichok incidents in Amesbury and Salisbury) the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts took part in a sponsored litter picking session, removing rubbish from Bishopdown Farm, the Laverstock School playing fields and Cockey Down in Laverstock, in hope to raise money towards their new campsite fund.

Each time the patrols filled one bag of rubbish they would receive £7.50, sponsored by Laverstock and Ford Parish Council.

With 23 bags collected in total and a cheque presented by parish counsellor, Karen Beard, the day was a success for all as the £150,000 target edges closer, all the while helping clean up the local sites.

Every member of the team played an important role, as each Scout section was recognised for their hard work picking the litter the Beavers also boasted their creative posters campaigning against no litter, and the Cubs participated in an evening of sport.

Beaver Leader, Jane Waspe said: "We are extremely grateful to the Parish Council both for our Sponsored Litter Pick donation and a sizeable grant.

"However we do need to raise £150,000 for the site so every donation helps.

"Our motto is Do your best for the Campsite Quest."
