TIDWORTH want to become the 'Kindness Capital of Wiltshire', through a new project forming a community that everyone can be a part of.

The Good Life Project wants to encourage residents of Tidworth to strengthen their community through doing the little things that make a big difference, organised by The Wiltshire Centre for Independent Living (CIL) and Wiltshire Council's Tidworth Community Area Board.

The project began with the Wiltshire CIL #makesomeonewelcome Twitter campaign, and as more and more people joined the hashtag community, the Wiltshire CIL team wanted to push this sense of community even further.

Residents were asked what voluntary actions build a good community, and their answers included being welcomed into a pub, inviting residents to local events, and being nice to neighbours, and these will be just some of the moments enforced by The Good Life Project.

One resident commented these gestures can cause a "chain reaction of kindness".

Business Development Manager for Wiltshire CIL, Mary Reed said: "The Good Life Project is a movement to change communities through simple things, whether that be neighbours popping into neighbours or having a chat at the till, it’s encouraging communities to make small changes for themselves.

"Everyone deserves to feel valuable in a community, we need to replace feelings of social isolation and what we can’t do into what we can do.

"Everyone has a gift and we should want to give back."

The Good Life Project hopes to educate and influence the community by doing a Kindness Roadshow around the Tidworth area, the first event held last week.

The project has been accompanied with an illustration by artist Sam Church, the piece reflecting the opinions of residents on how Tidworth can reach its kindness goal.

Sam said: "I spoke to Mary and she was so enthusiastic about the project, she just wanted to give this positive message and I knew exactly what she meant and how to show this positivity."

Mary added: "Sam put lots of personality into what may have been a pretty dry topic, he’s managed to translate our message with humour."

Wiltshire councillor for Ludgershall and Perham Down, Chris Williams said: “It is great to see the Tidworth area recognised for its community spirit.”
