BASINGSTOKE Strikers annual tournament was a superb success on Sunday and was opened by Basingstoke and Deane deputy mayor Diane Taylor at the War Memorial Park.

The Strikers in their new sponsored kit from Logicalis had three teams in the tournament and some of their players also played for an All Star side.

In tournament was split into two groups and in Group A, the Strikers Lions A team enjoy a 1-0 victory over the Feltham Bees, but then lost to eventually winners Streets Ahead A 1-0, before beating a Strikers C team 4-0, but then missed out on a semi-final place with a 2-0 loss to the Woking Wolves A team. The Strikers C team battled hard, but lost all their games.

In Group B, the Strikers Tigers B team went down to beaten finalists HFT from Feltham and Streets Ahead B 2-0, and also lost to the All Stars and Woking Wolverines B.

The All Stars team lost to Woking and HFT, but finished off with a 3-3 draw.

In the semi-finals both Woking sides were beaten by HFT and Streets Ahead A.

This set-up a tense final which thanks to some great reflex saves by both goalkeepers ended 0-0.

Therefore the trophy was decided on a penalty shoot-out which Streets Ahead from Andover won 5-3.

As well as the disabled tournament there was an able bodied event which saw 10 teams battle if out with team called Popley Shesh taking the honours.
