SALISBURY'S best and worst GP practices have been revealed in new figures.

Practices covered by NHS Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) were rated using figures from their GP Patient Survey (GPPS) 2018.

This year, 88 per cent of people said their overall experience of using a Wiltshire GP surgery was very good or fairly good (higher than the national average of 84 per cent), and just four per cent thought their experience had been very poor or fairly poor, compared to 6 per cent nationally.

Mere Surgery was rated the highest for overall experience this year, with 100 per cent of patient responses rating the practice either fairly good or very good.

Barcroft Medical Centre had the most improvement, up six percentage points (85 per cent to 91 per cent) from last year.

But others saw patient experience ratings dropped, including Bourne Valley Practice (down 13 per cent) and Cross Plain Health Centre (down nine per cent).

In Wiltshire, 11,451 copies of the GPPS were sent out and 5,696 were returned completed - a response rate of 50 per cent.

GPs covered by Wiltshire CCG performed higher than the national average in all categories of the survey, including ease of getting through to the practice, helpfulness of receptionists, access to online services and making an appointment.

98 per cent of respondents felt that they had confidence and trust in the healthcare professional they saw at their last appointment, with 95 per cent feeling like their needs had been met.

And when it came to mental health needs, 91 per cent of respondents said they felt their mental health needs had been recognised and understood, compared to 87 per cent nationally.

In Wiltshire, 70 per cent of respondents said they were satisfied with the waiting time for a GP appointment.
