WALKING tennis has become the new and successful form of exercise for individuals affected by brain injury, thanks to local brain injury charity.

Headway Salisbury and South Wiltshire (HWSSW) has recently introduced a weekly walking tennis class for participants to enjoy physical activity, as well as gaining and developing skills and improving their personal health and welfare.

The charity is "extremely pleased" with the ongoing success of the weekly sessions, the Meaningful Occupation Advisor for the charity and organiser of the sessions, Wendy Moscrop said: "The level of competition and camaraderie amongst participants is a real pleasure to see and it is a real highlight of my week to come along to these sessions.

"The partnership between Headway, Victoria Park Tennis and Five Rivers Sports Centre has meant that walking tennis has been a resounding success for all participants.

"The coach Taro, is very experienced and ensures everyone is challenged and has fun."

The sessions went ahead thanks to funding from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions programme and The BOOST Charitable Trust.

Wendy added: "Not only is walking tennis a great physical activity, but it also develops other valuable skills too such as organising, planning, dexterity, co-ordination, balance and timing, as well as increasing mental and physical well-being.

Additionally HWSSW offer 'drop in' brain injury cafes on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at Salisbury Medical Practice, for those who want to gain more information and advice on brain injury.

The tennis sessions are available for members from the charity's activity group, but if you or a family member has been affected by brain injury and would like to join one of the sessions please contact the team on 07725 827869 or email: info@salisburyheadway.co.uk.
