GERMAN visitors came to Salisbury over the weekend as part of their trip of solidarity with twinned town, Malmesbury.

On Sunday (September 2) ten visitors from Germany's Niebull visited the city on a day trip, accompanied by 14 residents from the host town including the town's mayor, Councillor Fran Vandelli, and Wiltshire Councillor, Gavin Grant..

Salisbury Mayor Councillor Mike Osment hosted the visitors as they walked through the medieval city to the cathedral.

Cllr Osment said: “We were pleased to welcome Malmesbury residents and their German guests to Salisbury.

"They saw for themselves that our beautiful city is very welcoming of visitors and is getting back to business.”

Mayor Cllr Fran Vandelli was "delighted" how they were received in the city, adding: "It was an honour to be welcomed by my fellow mayor and to walk through the city with both of us proudly wearing our chains of office.”

Julia Bowen, Chair of Malmesbury’s Town Twinning Association, encouraged the visitors to come to Salisbury as part of their stay and believed it to be a "delightful visit".

Niebull Town Councillor Anja Cornell added: “We had not been to Salisbury before, it is lovely just like Malmesbury but bigger.

"We were all shocked in Germany by what happened but it is good to see people enjoying themselves there.”
