During Evensong on Tuesday October 9, the Revd Dr Jane Shaw, Father Timothy Radcliffe, the Revd John Goodall, the Revd Paul Richardson, the Revd Jane Charman and the Revd Ian Woodward were all created Canons of Salisbury Cathedral.

John Goodall, Paul Richardson, Jane Charman and Ian Woodward are all Non-Residentiary Canons and members of the College of Canons. Jane Shaw is the first holder of the newly created position of Canon Theologian, and Timothy Radcliffe has been appointed as a Sarum Canon.

More recently, the Bishop of Salisbury, the Right Revd. David Stancliffe has invited the Venerable Stephen Robbins (Deputy Chaplain General) to be a Non-Residentiary Canon and new Cathedral Chapter member Dr Lydia Brown to be a Lay Canon. They will be installed during the All Saints Day Eucharist in the Cathedral on November 1.

Dr Lydia Brown is currently the Managing Director of an international pharmaceutical company based in Fordingbridge where she was one of the team who lead the management buy-out in 2004 from the then American multinational owners.

President of the Veterinary Benevolent Fund, Lydia lives in the Bourne Valley and is Church Warden at St Mary the Virgin, Winterbourne Gunner.

The Venerable Stephen Robbins was Vicar in his home town of Gateshead in 1980, before joining the Regular Army in 1987. After serving with various units in Germany and the UK, he was appointed Archdeacon for the Army in May 2004 and a Queen's Honorary Chaplain in August 2005.

He assumed the position of Director of Training at MOD Chaplains (Army) in May 2006, and then he was promoted to Deputy Chaplain-General, Archdeacon for the Army on March 9, 2007.

The Very Revd June Osborne, Dean of Salisbury, said: "Lydia has recently brought her immense skills to the governance of the Cathedral as a member of Chapter and we are delighted to recognize that important role as she becomes a Lay Canon.

"Stephen's membership of the College of Canons will help reinforce our links with the armed forces and the many service personnel and their families who live in the Diocese."
