Stepping into the Stone Age

Comments (0)CHILDREN dressed-up in ancient-style costumes yesterday for a school trip to Stonehenge.
The Year 5 pupils from Greentrees Primary School in Salisbury went to the Bronze Age monument as part of an English Heritage Discovery Visit.
They visited ancient burial mounds, handled artefacts, took part in musical processions and acted as human stones to gain an insight into the site and its history.
Ray Picton, deputy headteacher, said the children really enjoyed themselves. "They really loved being dressed up and seeing the landscapes of Stonehenge - and not just the stones, but a whole new dimension to it," he said.
The school also filmed the day as part of a partnership with Miller Elementary School in Newark, Ohio, forged after Mr Picton taught there for a term during an exchange visit.
Mr Picton will show the film at a conference in May organised by Ohio State University about educational links with schools overseas.
