Organisers of this weekend's People in the Park in Salisbury say they have taken the "very difficult decision" to postpone the event following the death of the Queen.

The free community event, organised by Salisbury Transition City, was due to be held on Saturday in Queen Elizabeth Gardens. A new date is being planned for May next year

A statement released on the group's Facebook page said: "After consulting with Salisbury City Council, we have taken the very difficult decision to postpone People In The Park 2022.

"We believe that Queen Elizabeth Gardens and its neighbours should be able to grieve in peace during the national mourning period. For those who were planning on coming to the event, we encourage you to spend the time with people you love, doing the things you love, together.

"We want to extend our sincere apologies to everyone who has put in a huge amount of time and effort into preparing for this amazing event. We were so excited to welcome you all to the park next weekend... we will be in touch with stall holders, speakers and performers over the next few days with more details and our new date in May."
