A FATHER and son and a maintenance worker who has put in 40 years of service are amongst those who have been honoured by Salisbury District Council.

John and Andrew Derbridge have worked for the council for 15 years and as well as Keith Thomas' 40 years, seven workers were given long service awards after 20 years and two more for 25 years.

Council chairman Bobbie Chettleburgh, who presented the awards, said: "It is particularly poignant to be saying thank you to this special group of people in what it the council's last year.

"When we talk about local government it is often forgotten there is a large team of employees who help bring these services to the public, from the emptying of our bins to the maintenance of public grounds."

In all, those honoured have given a total of 450 years of public service.

Well done all of them. A great example to us all. Our task now is to ensure that jobs are retained in the City when the Council ceases in its present form.
