THE police have released CCTV images of two men they want to question in connection with the damage to the Hele Stone at Stonehenge.

Vandals used a screwdriver and a hammer to damaged the key sarsen stone sometime between 9pm and 10pm on May 15.

They managed to hack off a small piece of it before they were disturbed by security guards and escaped over the fence.

They are believed to have driven off in a red Rover 400.

It is understood they visited the 5,000-year-old monument previously, before returning on the evening of May 15 and causing the damage.

Anyone who recognises the men in the CCTV images or saw the red Rover or two males acting suspiciously are being asked to contact PC William Marks at Amesbury Police Station by calling 0845 408 7000.

Alternatively, anonymous information may be left with Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
