PUPILS at a Salisbury primary school can now get to school with the help of a walking bus'.
Youngsters at St Osmund's Primary School can get to school in a green' fashion with the help of free parking for parents at the starting point of the city's Culver Street car park.
The location of the school meant a suitable starting point for the bus had proved to be a problem but Salisbury District Council has now agreed parents can park at Culver Street without charge between 8.20am and 9.30am on weekday mornings during the school term.
Cllr Helena McKeown, the council's portfolio holder for transport, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to work with the parents at St Osmund's to come up with a scheme that promotes child safety and reduces traffic congestion at peak times."
Wiltshire County Council's road safety manager, The Rev. Patrick McEune said: "We are encouraging schools in Wiltshire to set up walking buses in a bid to ease the congestion outside many of our schools."
