A PRIMARY school has received a new rating from Ofsted following an inspection.

Longford C of E Primary School, in Britford, was visited by Ofsted on June 7 and 8 during which inspectors reviewed the school's effectiveness.

A report published on July 20 explained why the school's rating fell from 'good' to 'requires improvement'.

The quality of education, leadership and management and early years provision all require improvement while behaviour and attitudes as well as personal development remain good.

Longford was described as a "small, welcoming school" which has 60 pupils ranging from the age of four to 11.

Leaders were praised for developing a broad curriculum but teachers are still securing their own knowledge and confidence of a subject which means it is not always shared or modelled in a way that helps pupils remember.

An "inclusive" environment is created at the school but leaders' ambition to prepare pupils for the future is "not always realised through the curriculum".

"Leaders have an overly generous view of the impact of the actions they put in place to bring improvement. This hinders their ability to ensure the effectiveness of their work," the inspector added.

Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well supported and teachers have the information they need to provide adaptation.

Safeguarding arrangements are effective and staff receive regular training.

Headteacher Louise Knipe said: "We are pleased that Ofsted recognized the strengths of the school: the care of the children, their positive attitudes and good behaviour, and most importantly the focus on their personal development.

"This year’s assessments, finalized after the Ofsted visit, show that 100% of Reception pupils achieved the expected outcomes for Early Years; 83% of Year 2 pupils achieved expected for reading and 83% of Year 6 pupils achieved expected for reading, with 33% achieving greater depth.

"We are looking forward to building on those strengths and to joining an aspirational academy trust in December."
