A GROUP of "pub fanatics" has acquired a new venue and plans to extensively refurbish it.

The Silver Plough, at White Hill, closed on July 2 as the former owner left for health reasons.

But owners of the Wiltshire-based Chickpea Group have taken the pub under their wing and added it to their handful of five other local pubs.

The 18th Century Pitton pub is "packed with charm and period features" and will offer food, drink and a place to stay overnight.

Initial refurbishments are currently underway and the Silver Plough will reopen in late August.

This is part of the first phase of the project, with the second involving an upstairs renovation of the old skittle alley to form seven bedrooms.

Work on phase two of the renovation is set to start in spring 2024.

The pub itself will have beamed ceilings, wooden floors, cosy fireplaces and three large areas for dining inside with space for around 100 covers.

A beer garden at the front of the pub will invite guests to enjoy a meal or drink in the sunshine.

Chickpea place great importance on food and the team is excited to work with local south west suppliers.

The menu will include the usual 'Pub Bangers' including pies, burgers, and fish and chips; together with more delicate dishes.

Gardner and Beedle are supplying the wine list and some of the beers will come from Rude Giant Brew Co.

Owner Ethan Davids, at the Chickpea Group, said: "The Silver Plough is a real gem and we're looking forward to reopening following a pretty extensive refit, both inside the pub itself and in the kitchen.

"We are pub fanatics, and like our other country boozers, the Silver Plough will be a place for people to pop in for a pint and a packet of crisps, or something more substantial from our food menu."

Mr Davids said his business' pubs boast a "vibrant atmosphere, cosy interiors and proper service" which is something he's "buzzing" to bring to Pitton.

The Queen's Head in Broad Chalke, acquired by Chickpea on February 8, is also about to commence works to renovate the upstairs, which will create five more bedrooms inside the pub.
