A SUPERMARKET wants to install a new hand car wash in its car park - despite the car park being prone to flooding.

Morrisons, in Chiltern Drive in Verwood, has asked Dorset Council if it can remove nine parking spaces and replace them with a car park ‘valet pod’.

The Bradford-based supermarket says the car wash would be in use between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday and bank holidays.

A design and access statement said: “Car Park Valet offers a ‘wash whilst you shop’ service, locating a convenient hand car wash and valeting operation within the car park of the existing Morrisons store.

“[It aims] to provide a sustainable service coinciding with existing local travel and parking patterns.”

It added the service would be “highly valued” by Morrisons’ customers and “firmly aligns with their plan to bring more and more popular and useful services to the communities that they serve”.

Documents submitted to the council also state there is “no direct risks from flooding” with the proposed car wash – despite the car park being known to shoppers to flood when it rains.

A decision has yet to be made on the planning application.
